KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Oct. 14, 2015) – Fresh off of a top-20 run at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Danica Patrick heads to Kansas Speedway in Kansas City for Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 for what will be her seventh NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at the 1.5-mile track. She finished a career-best seventh there in May 2014. In two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts there, she finished a career-best 10th in October 2012. Patrick has also made six IndyCar Series starts at Kansas. In 2005, she scored the pole award for the Argent Mortgage 300, and she earned one top-five and three top-10 finishes at the track in that series.

Patrick will have her mind set on track performance at Kansas this weekend, but she will be continuing to support a great cause as her normally green Chevrolet will be pink in honor of breast cancer awareness. The special paint scheme is a part of a month-long program for Patrick and the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS team for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) in support of GoDaddy’s annual “Put the Brakes on Breast Cancer” campaign.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. The goal of the “Put the Brakes on Breast Cancer” program is to raise awareness and money and to help support the cause. GoDaddy is donating $50,000 to NBCF, inviting customers to “round up” purchases to the nearest dollar for the charity and matching individual employee contributions up to $500 each.

In addition, race fans can join GoDaddy and Patrick in supporting the NBCF by making a tax-deductible donation at www.Go.Me/Donate. GoDaddy has promoted breast cancer awareness since 2010 and the objective of the “Put the Brakes on Breast Cancer” program is to inspire the millions of fans watching Sprint Cup races this month to donate and get regular check-ups. 

The NBCF is recognized as one of the leading breast cancer organizations in the world. Its mission is to help women by inspiring hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education and support services. According to the organization, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. The NBCF’s logo will be featured on the decklid of Patrick’s No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS throughout the month of October. 

Patrick will wear a pink firesuit to match her pink car this month and she will also don gloves featuring pink accents at Kansas this weekend. In addition, she will utilize a special pink-accented steering wheel made by Max Papis Innovations in the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS and, at the end of October, her steering wheel will be autographed and donated to the NBCF for auction.

As she makes a return to Kansas this weekend, Patrick and the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS team hope that fans will join them in supporting the cause by making donations to the NBCF.

What are your overall thoughts on going back to Kansas?

“I’ve always liked going to Kansas. It’s a nice facility and I’ve got a lot of experience there compared to some places, even if a lot of it is in IndyCar.” 

What’s the key to figuring out Kansas, as you seemed to do last spring?

“Kansas is a good memory for me, for sure. While I’d love to tell you what the trick is, it’s not that simple. I think that the car needs to be good. Downforce is critical because it’s a very fast track, so the closer to flat-out you can be, the better. These cars are finicky. It’s about focusing on the small things and getting the most out of the car itself instead of trying to throw the kitchen sink at it if you’re a little off. It’s all in the little details. I think that’s the most important thing.” 

What is the hardest part of the track to figure out at Kansas?

“It’s a fast track. I think it’s the same problem we face at most tracks we go to – you have to get through the center well enough to be comfortable enough to be very aggressive with the throttle at the same time. I think that, for sheer speed, you can’t be too loose, but in the race you can’t be too tight or you’ll fall back.”

Your No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet SS will feature a special pink paint scheme for the month of October. Talk about that. 

“The pink car really looks great this year and I think fans will definitely notice it on the track. I think we all want to make a statement – I bet there are very few people out there who don’t know someone impacted by breast cancer. My friend had a double mastectomy as a pre-emptive strike because she actually tested positive for the breast cancer gene. She went through everything and hopefully avoided it, but it hit close to home. If we all work together, we can help make a difference. Whether it’s starting a conversation or inspiring donations, every little bit helps.”
